ABOUT US

Welcome to the Good-Will Fire Department. We are dedicated to serving and protecting our community.

History of Good-Will

Early in October 1947, a large brush fire menaced the homes and property on Pierpont Avenue. The volunteer fire departments of Cronomer Valley and Orange Lake came to the aid of a few men who were fighting this fire without proper equipment. This incident brought out the need for a more local volunteer fire department, the organization of the Good-Will Fire Department. On October 31st, 1947, the first meeting was held and the fire department was organized. Anthony Bianco became the first President and Joseph Wicker the first Chief of the Good-Will Fire Department.

The Journey Continues..

The end of the 90’s saw the beginning of a new era, the conversion of a fire protection district to
a fire district. After 50 years as a fire protection district contracting to the Town of Newburgh,
the first slate of fire commissioners was appointed to the Good Will Fire District in 1998.

By 2018, Good-Will was moving into a new home, erected on the same parcel of land that the old
firehouse had stood and served the community for over 50 years. The Good-Will Fire Department,
with its 40 active members, faithfully serve the community with a new state-of-the-art firehouse,
a 1998 Pierce Pumper, a 2006 SVI Heavy Rescue, a 2012 Sutphen Pumper, a 2003 Utility/Fire Police

Vehicle, a 2006 Utility Pickup and 2 Chevy Tahoe Chief’s vehicles.

We Still Evolve

As the fire district continued to evolve as time marched on into the 21st century, larger and more state-of-the-art fire and rescue equipment was required to meet the needs of the community. Good-Will was also fortunate enough to host the county parade again, with Jeffry Holmes as OCVFA President. The fire district now housed more cluster housing, retail and commercial space where small homes and farms had once stood. The lightly used roads were replaced with over-crowded highways. Before the end of the first decade, it became apparent that the firehouse that had been serving as home since the 1960’s had become too small to house the newer fire vehicles and the equipment. So, plans were put in place to erect a new firehouse.

In 2022, Good-Will hosted the OCVFA parade for a third time, led by President Ray VanInwegen.

The next step is to continue to evolve and keep up with the changing times as our history continues to grow and Good-Will continues to serve our community.
